17u African Baseball championship 2014

South Africa were invited to participate in this tournament which was held in the town of Meru situated in  Kenya.

This was to be the qualifier for the 18u World cup hosted by IBAF which will be taking place in Japan at the end of August 2015.

Only 1 African country would qualify to compete in this tournament.

 

The squad departed on 13th Dec 2014 and arrived after a 4 hour flight and a 7 hour bus trip.

The conditions were rough but they had a job to do and that was to qualify to play in Japan next year.

They were scheduled to play against Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda in a round robin and then a playoff match to see who would compete for gold.

Playoff:

South Africa  24 - Kenya  1

Final:

South Africa  4 - Uganda  1

South Africa were thus crowned African champions and therefore qualify to play in the 18u World cup 2015.

Their challenge will be to raise the money for the airfares and kit - the accommodation and meals will be taken care of by IBAF.

Well done to the team who played extremely well under the trying conditions experienced.
